Band and Orchestra Instrument Repair

West Music is home to the Midwest’s largest and most experienced instrument repair team. Our professional technicians provide superior repair work at affordable rates! Check out one of our 5 convenient repair locations throughout Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois.

Our staff of thirteen full-time technicians have a wealth of experience and would be happy to help you. If you’re having any problems with your instrument or other music equipment, bring it to one of our instrument repair shops or contact us with questions.

*Please note that West Music provides fully-covered warranty repair work for band and orchestra instruments purchased through West Music. When providing warranty work for instruments purchased elsewhere, there will be an additional fee attached to cover records searches.

West Music offers free pick-up and drop-off services at most local schools. Please fill out the Student Instrument Repair Form, and we’ll contact you to make arrangements. You can also always bring your instrument into one of our stores.

Frank Calhoun

Frank Calhoun HeadshotFrank started with West Music in late 2019. He has been trained on all wind instruments but specializes in brass instruments, including everything from trumpets to tubas.

After earning a BA in Music with an emphasis on bassoon from Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio in 2007, he went on to complete his Associate’s degree in Band Instrument Repair from Western Iowa Tech in 2009. There, he was trained to work on all wind instruments. After completing his repair degree, Frank worked at one of the premier music stores in the Salt Lake City area, eventually working his way to Repair Shop Manager.

In his free time, Frank enjoys spending time with family, fishing, and gardening.

Mark Fiagle

Mark has been with West Music since 1986. He specializes in saxophone, flute and bassoon repair and is qualified to work on all brands of Woodwind instruments.

He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1981 with a degree in Music Performance and attended Red Wing Vo-Tech in 1985-86, where he gathered experience working on both woodwind and brass instruments.

Mark enjoys traveling with his family, as well as volunteering at his church.

Andy Taylor

Andy has been trained on all woodwind and brass instruments and specializes in woodwinds, clarinets, oboes, flutes, and piccolos.

He graduated from Minnesota State College – Southeast Technical in Red Wing Minnesota in 1995 and has been at West Music ever since.

He’s had a number of memorable “repair moments,” including an emergency repair for the Lincoln Center jazz band.

Mallory Christopher

Mallory is a 2011 graduate of the Band Instrument Repair program at Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical in Red Wing, Minnesota. She has been doing repair since graduating and has been with West Music since 2014.

Prior to repair, Mallory graduated from the University of Iowa in 2006 and taught band for 4 years before going to repair school.

In her free time, Mallory enjoys cooking, biking, reading, playing bassoon, and watching TV.

Miranda Honzel

MIranda HonzelOriginally from Rockford, IL, Miranda graduated with a certificate in Band Instrument Repair from Minnesota State College Southeast in Red Wing, MN. Additionally, she has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Luther College.

For 2 1/2 years, Miranda worked with Zeswitz Music in Pennsylvania as a general repair technician. In December 2019, she joined the West Music Repair Team in Cedar Falls, IA.

Miranda’s major instrument is the bassoon, but she has an excellent working knowledge of all brass and woodwind instruments. In addition to music, her hobbies include roller skating, crocheting, and hiking.

Quad Cities/Moline, Illinois Band and Orchestra Instrument Repair

Andrew Ross

Andrew is qualified to work on brass, woodwinds, strings and percussion. He attended Minnesota State College-Southeast Tech (Red Wing). After graduation in 2009 he worked as a repair tech for Sam Ash Music in New York City.

As a drummer he is a rare gem in the brass and wind repair world.

Kim Saito

Kim is the instrument repair specialist at our Moline, IL location. She has extensive training in repairs on all woodwind and brass instruments. In addition, her specialty is repairing and regulating professional handmade flutes in collaboration with West Music Company’s Flute Authority team. Kim also repairs orchestral string instruments.

She graduated from Minnesota State College – Southeast Technical, in Red Wing, Minnesota in 2006, and also graduated from Iowa State University in 2005 with her Bachelor of Arts in Music. Her main performance instrument is the clarinet.

Kim takes great pride in the quality of her repairs, and she understands that a perfect performance can only be achieved with a well-regulated, well playing instrument.

Dubuque, Iowa Band and Orchestra Instrument Repair

Derek Combs

Derek has been repairing in Dubuque with West Music since 2003. He graduated in 2003 from Western Iowa Technical College in Sioux City, Iowa with an A.A.S. degree in Band Instrument Repair Technology. Derek is qualified to repair and restore all brass, woodwind, double reed, and percussion instruments.

In his spare time, he plays drums and volunteers in his community with the Dubuque Jaycees.
