Elementary and Secondary Education Relief Funding (ESSER)
With the third round of Elementary and Secondary Education Relief Funding (ESSER) released in early March 2021, there is an unprecedented amount of monies available for music education. We’re here to help you get your slice of the pie!
ESSER funds can be used for:
- Additional/replacement instruments and equipment to avoid shared use
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), bell covers, and facemasks
- Instructional Support
- Teacher compensation for remedial instruction
- Materials to facilitate social distancing (microphones, media carts, outdoor tents, etc.)
- Software for virtual learning

Still not sure if ESSER funding is applicable in your classroom?
Work with your school administrator to see what is available to you and note that ESSER funding can be used for a variety of purposes, including the purchasing of materials to limit sharing of instruments. There are so many options for how to apply these funds to your elementary general music classroom!

Aaron Hansen is an experienced K-6 General Music educator, passionate about bringing music to life through the Orff Approach. He holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Music Education from the University of Northern Iowa. Aaron has completed comprehensive Orff Teacher Training, including three levels at the University of St. Thomas and an Orff Master Class. His dedication to the Orff method took him to the Summer International Course at the Orff Institute in Salzburg, Austria. Aaron also shares his expertise by teaching movement at various Orff Teacher Training Courses and conducting workshops for local Orff Chapters.
