I started my internship in July and have 2 weeks left. The time has gone so fast! When I began applying for internships, the main characteristic of the internship that I was looking at was experience with populations that I had not worked with. I did not have experience with the geriatric population, hospice or adults with developmental disabilities, which is exactly who the West Music internship works with. This internship provided me with the experience that I wanted in order to feel confident in working with the adult populations.
I have also gained experience in how to transition into the professional world. At the beginning of my internship, I had free time that I was not expecting. I was used to going to school, doing homework, practicing piano, and working. I was busy all the time. Therefore, it was very difficult for me not be busy all the time. My internship has taught me how to balance work with free time.
I have enjoyed my internship and I will miss all my clients. I know that after I am a board-certified music therapist, I will have confidence and competence to work with several populations.
