The health and safety of our customers and associates are our top priorities at West Music. To do our part, West Music is keeping our regional retail stores closed to the public for browsing. However, we are offering a range of services to help you to continue to play now, play for life!
In consideration of servicing our customers and current public health and safety concerns, we have modified our retail store hours until further notice. See current store hours for your local West Music store.
We are continuing to monitor the situation and are following national and local health guidelines. Please check back often for updates.

-
Customer Service Center – We continue to operate our call center to support customer orders and requests on our regular 9-5 schedule. We have transitioned some of our team members to work remotely so we can lower contact and create more space for social distancing for those reporting to work. Customer Service is still there to take your calls, chats, and faxes though we may be servicing those calls from home (apologies for any dogs, kids, or other background noise you would not expect).
-
Fulfillment Center Hours Modified – Our fulfillment center team is shipping every order out the door as quickly as possible as we know people are wanting ways to keep themselves occupied and engaged. We have gone to split shifts to allow for social distancing at the warehouse and additional time to clean work-spaces between shifts.
-
Adjusted Store Hours – We decided to reduce our Iowa and Illinois physical store hours at all locations to minimize contact, reduce spread, and allow for deeper cleanings to keep associates and customers safe. You can see updated hours on our website or on our Facebook or Google Maps pages. We will continue to monitor the situation and may adjust store hours further if necessary. As of this sending we have closed our Moline store until April 7th due to Illinois state order.
-
Confirming School/District Openings for Shipments – As many of you are educators, we are working to confirm if your school or district is still open before shipping your order. While we are utilizing a variety of resources to confirm, this is a difficult process and there is not an easy way to know if a building is open for deliveries if there isn’t also support staff to answer phones as we inquire. We are operating with the basic assumption that if a district is closed, deliveries are not being accepted and we are monitoring the opening dates to ship your order at that time. If you have information to share about whether or not your building or central warehouse is accepting orders at this time, please let us know so that we can ship your order in a timely manner. You are welcome to call us at 800-397-9378 or email service@westmusic.com with this vital information.
MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
MARCH 17, 2020
Dear West Music Customers,
We wanted to stay in touch as the situation continues to evolve and update you on some additional steps we are taking as an organization to address health, safety, and wellness of our customers and associates.
- Modified Store Hours – We will be modifying our store hours to shorter hours to allow for cleaning and limit exposure for our associates and customers. See current store hours for your local West Music store.
- Incoming Repairs Holding Period – We will be setting aside incoming repairs for 3 days prior to initiating work based on current guidelines on surfaces and transfer.
- Group Activities and Performances – We have cancelled all group activities and performances through April 13th. For early childhood classes, we are evaluating the possibility of extending the semester or potential refunds for cancelled classes. Group rehearsals and in-store performances are postponed through April 13th.
- Lessons -We are continuing to work with our teaching partners to address ongoing lessons. At this time we are allowing individual lessons in store with cleaning protocols but are strongly encouraging teachers to explore remote lesson opportunities or pausing lessons for the short-term. We are waiving any last minute cancellation fees at this time. Please be in touch with your teacher to identify ways to continue making music and keep practicing. 🙂
- Music Therapy Visits Partially Suspended -We are suspending current client therapy sessions for the next four weeks except for on-call hospice patients. Therapists will be in touch to communicate cancellations.
We continue to believe in the power of making music and encourage everyone to practice safe and healthy habits. Now is the perfect time to take time to pull your instrument out of the case and start practicing. The therapeutic benefits of music making are needed now more than ever. If you needed a pick me up, check out this fantastic video of how Italians are still making music and using it as a way to manage the current situation.
We will continue to keep you updated on any changes we may make. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support as we get through this together.
If you have any questions, please reach out to us at service@westmusic.com or 319-351-2000.
Sincerely,
Ryan West

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
MARCH 13, 2020
Dear West Music Customers,
We wanted to reach out to you provide an update on how West Music is addressing the recent developments regarding COVID-19. As there continues to be uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus, we remain diligent in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all of our associates and customers.
At this time, our stores in Iowa and Illinois will remain open, and we will continue offering our regular products and services to help people play now and play for life.
Following are some of the precautions we are taking to assist in limiting the spread of the virus:
- Expanded regular cleaning – We clean and maintain all of our stores but have expanded the frequency and protocols for cleaning our stores to maintain good hygiene.
- Cleaning of lesson studios – As we have a number of students and teachers in and out of the stores on a regular basis, we are reminding teachers to wipe down shared surfaces with alcohol-based wipes at the beginning and end of each lesson.
- Regular hand washing and sanitizing – We encourage all teachers, customers, and associates to continue to wash hands regularly and have expanded placements of 70% alcohol hand sanitizers in our stores.
- If students or teachers are not feeling well – We ask if you are not feeling well that you stay at home and communicate with your teacher or student. We ask that you and your student be fever-free for 24 hours before attending lessons.
- Instrument Trials – We continue to invite customers to trial instruments on a limited basis in our stores and we will clean the instruments after each use. We will continue to use appropriate cleaning techniques on trialed instruments to limit spread of viruses.
- Mouthpiece Testing and New Student Instrument Testing – We have decided to temporarily suspend in-person instrument testing at area schools and in-store during this uncertain time, however, we are still providing instruments and mouthpieces as well as hygiene recommendations for any area directors that are pursuing testing. We are working with area directors to share alternate solutions for instrument testing including instrument demonstrations that do not require the student to blow into the instrument.
We will continue to monitor developments and will follow recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Iowa Department of Public Health.
If you have any questions, please reach out to us at service@westmusic.com or 319-351-2000.
Sincerely,
Ryan West
